O saxofonista e compositor Seamus Blake é considerado um dos expoentes máximos do jazz da atualidade. John Scofield, que o convidou para integrar a Quiet Band, referiu-se-lhe como «um saxofonista extraordinário e completo». Ao longo de 24 anos de carreira, Seamus recebeu diversos elogios pelas suas atuações magistrais e pelas suas capacidades enquanto compositor.
Seamus Blake nasceu em dezembro de 1970, em Inglaterra, e cresceu em Vancouver, no Canadá. Aos 21 anos, enquanto ainda estudava na prestigiada Berklee College of Music, em Boston, foi convidado para gravar com o lendário baterista Victor Lewis. Após a sua formação, mudou-se para Nova Iorque, nos Estados Unidos da América, onde rapidamente se estabeleceu na cena de jazz nova-iorquina. Em fevereiro de 2002, o saxofonista venceu o Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, em Washington D.C e, na qualidade de vencedor, teve a oportunidade de tocar com Wayne Shorter e Herbie Hancock.
Seamus fez parte da Quiet Band, liderada por John Scofield e gravou e fez digressões com Dave Douglas. Trabalhou ainda com outros artistas como Eric Reed, Ethan Iverson, Chris Cheek, and Matt Penman.
Como líder ou co-líder, Seamus lançou 16 álbuns e participou, como acompanhante, em mais de 70. Destaca-se a sua participação em 6 álbuns gravados pela Mingus Big Band, nomeados aos Grammy. Além disso, continua a tocar e a gravar com Bill Stewart, Kevin Hays, David Kikoski e Alex Sipiagin.

Saxophonist and composer Seamus Blake is recognized as one of the finest exponents of contemporary jazz. John Scofield, who hired Seamus for his “Quiet Band,” called him “extraordinary, a total saxophonist.” Throughout his 24 year career, Seamus has garnered critical praise for his masterful playing and his fine compositional skills.
Seamus Blake was born December 1970 in England and raised in Vancouver, Canada. At age 21, while still a student at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College, he was asked to record with legendary drummer Victor Lewis. After graduation, he moved to New York, where he rapidly established himself on the New York jazz scene. In February 2002, Seamus took first place in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition in Washington D.C. As the winner, he performed with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock.
Seamus was a member of John Scofield’s Quiet Band and toured and recorded with Dave Douglas. Some of the many other artists he has worked with include Eric Reed, Ethan Iverson, Chris Cheek, and Matt Penman.
As a leader/co-leader , Seamus has released 16 albums. He is featured as a sideman on over 70 Cds. Seamus has played on six of the Grammy nominated Mingus bands’ albums. He continues to play and record with Bill Stewart, Kevin Hays, David Kikoski and Alex Sipiagin.
